What is keyboard ? Keyboard Keys ? Keyboard Shortcut Keys .

Well what is Computer Keyboard ?
Many peoples must be wondered about what keyboard is . but I want to let you know if you have used desktop , laptop , or even mobile phone then you must have used keyboard for once atleast but I am sure that it happened for more than once ... But there are many peoples who dont have full information about keyboard . Then you are at right place after reading this article you will be knowing all the important things about keyboard . so without wasting any time lets get started .

What is keyboard ?                                                                               
Keyboard is an input device which is used to commands such as to enter text , symbols, numericals , etc to the computer , laptop or in the smartphones . with the help of Keyboard we would be able to type also .

keyboard is a mediator between user and computer .

How does keyboard is connected to computer ?
In the early times keyhboards were connected with the computer with PS/2 or serial connector , but now a days PS/2 or serial connectors are replaced by USB (Universal Serial Bus) or Wireless connectors .

Wireless keyboard is most portable amongst the other keyboards . The only disadvantage of wireless keyboard is that we need to replace the battery very often .

Types Of Keyboard Layout :-                                                                           
There are three types of keyboard :-
1.QWERTY
2.AZERTY
3.DVORAK

1.QWERTY:-                                                                                         
This layout of keyboard is very common all over the world . The name comes from the first 6 keys on the top row from left side of the keyboard .

2.AZERTY:-                                                                                          
This keyboard is designed in france . It is designed with another layout of QWERTY keyboard . This keyboard is also called as FRENCH STANDARD KEYBOARD .


3.DVORAK :-                                                                                       
This keyboard is designed to reduce the movement of fingers as we have to move fingers so much in QWERTY keyboard . We can type fast in DVORAK keyboard than that of QWERTY keyboard .

NOTE :- Most used keyboard till date is QWERTY keyboard all over the world .

Buttons Of Keyboard :-                                                                      
There are many keys present on the keyboard e.g. letters , numbers , function , symbols , command , etc . All the keys they belongs to some specific category . So it will be easy to know about the function of those keys if we will know in which category does this keys belongs too .

It is understood that in all the keyboards atleast alphanumeric keys will be present even if there will be no command keys or function keys .

There are four basic categories of buttons of the keyboard :-
1.Alphanumeric
2.Punctuation
3.Navigation 
4.Command keys or special keys 

1.Alphanumeric Keys :-                                                                           
From the name it is understood that these keys contains either letters i.e. A-Z or numbers i.e. 0-9 .
numbers are present on two halves of the keyboard one on the upper row from where the letters start and second one on the right side of the keyboard .

The keys which are on the upper row from where the letters start are double keys that means they contains number as well as keys , so if u press shift key along with some number then you would be able to get the symbol which is present on that particular number key .

2.Punctuation Keys :-                                                                        
These are the keys which are related with punctuation marks e.g. comma , question mark , colon key , period key , etc . These keys are present just next to the letter keys on the keyboard . we can use this keys by pressing shift key along with the punctuation marks we want to enter to enter that punctuation mark in our documents .

3.Navigation Keys :-                                                                          
These are the keys which are present on the right side of letter keys and on the left side of numbers .
These keys include the arrow keys i.e. left , right , up , down . this keys are used as the cursor roller of mouse which is used to move the screen . This keys can be used to select the titles in youtube , or the history from the web browser , etc .

4.Command Keys or Special Keys :-                                               
Command keys are the keys which are used to give the commands e.g. delt key is used to give delete command , Return or enter key is used to give open something or to enter on that webpage or documents .

Special keys are Caps lock key , shift key , tab key , etc .

Types Of Keys :-                                                                                
In Normal Keyboards , according to their work these keys are categories into 6 categories which are as follows :-
1.Function Keys 
2.Typing Keys
3.Control Keys 
4.Navigation Keys
5.Indicator Lights
6.Numeric Keypad 

1.Function Keys :-                                                                            
This are the keys which are present on the toppest row . This keys include keys from f1-f12 , this keys are used to perform special tast . This keys have different functions in different program .

2.Typing Keys :-                                                                               
Most used keys are this keys. This keys include alphanumeric keys i.e. both alphabets and numbers . In typing keys all type of symbols and punctuation keys are included .

3.Control Keys :-                                                                              
These keys in the Keyboard are used to perform special task . In normal keyboard mostly ctrl key , alt key , windows key , esc keys are used as control keys . menu key , prtsc key , pause break keys are also control keys .

4.Navigation Keys :-                                                                        
These keys include arrow keys i.e. up , down , left , right  , home , end , pg up , pg dn , delete , insert , home , end keys are included . These keys are used to move in documents or in the web page .

5.Indicator Lights :-                                                                        
There are three lights which are present in the keyboard which indicates num lock , scroll lock , caps lock . When first light is on in the keyboard it means that numeric keyboard is turned on in the keyboard , and if it is off it means that it is turned off . second light indicates us for the lowercase and uppercase of the letters . Scroll lock indicates when it is on is to toggle the arrow keys and scrolling when it is off .

6.Numeric Keypad :-                                                                      
These keys can also be called as calculator key because these keys are arranged in same manner as in the calculator . These keys are used to enter number .

Some Important Control Keys And Their Uses :-                       
1.ESC Key :-This key is used to cancel the task . the full name of this key is ESCAPE Key .

2.Ctrl Key :-The full name of this key is CONTROL key which is used in keyboard shortcut .

3.Alt Key :-The full name of Alt key is ALTER key which is also used in keyboard shortcut .

4.Window Logo Key :- THis key is used to open start menu .

5.Menu Key :- This key works same as that of Right click of mouse . This key is used to select the option of a selected program .

6.PtrScr :- This key is used to take the image of Computer screen or you can say this key is used to take screenshot of the computer screen .

Keyboard shortcut Keys :-                                                              

  1. Ctrl and A: Selects all in the current document.
  2. Ctrl and B: Bold text.
  3. Ctrl and C: Copies the item or text.
  4. Ctrl and D: Displays the Font dialogue box.
  5. Ctrl and E: Switch a paragraph between center and left alignment.
  6. Ctrl and F: Displays the Find dialog box to search the current document.
  7. Ctrl and G: Displays the Go To dialog box to search for a specific location in the current document.
  8. Ctrl and H: Displays the Replace dialogue box.
  9. Ctrl and I: Italicize text.
  10. Ctrl and J: Switch a paragraph between justified and left alignment.
  11. Ctrl and K: Create a hyperlink.
  12. Ctrl and L: Left align a paragraph.
  13. Ctrl and M: Indent a paragraph from the left.
  14. Ctrl and N: Create a new document.
  15. Ctrl and O: Opens a new document.
  16. Ctrl and P: Prints a document.
  17. Ctrl and R: Switch the alignment of a paragraph between left and right.
  18. Ctrl and S: Saves a document.
  19. Ctrl and U: Underlines text.
  20. Ctrl and V: Pastes the copied item or text.
  21. Ctrl and X: Cuts the selected item or text.
  22. Ctrl and Y: Redo the last action.
  23. Ctrl and Z: Undo the last action.
  24. Ctrl and Enter: Insert a page break.
