What is Monitor ?

Monitor :-
It is an electronic device  which is also an output device which shows the desired result to the user . It is a mediator or interface between the user and CPU  . Monitor is connected with motherboard with the help of a cable which is connected with video adapter or video cable .

Monitors and television both looks very similar but the main difference between them is television do have a television tuner where as monitor doesnt have that .The resolution of monitor is higher than that of televisions .

A monitor is also known as screen , video screen , display unit , display , etc .

Work of computer :-
A computer monitor is a type of display adapter which shows information processed by video card of a computer . When a video card or a graphic card converts binary information i.e. 0 and 1 to images then it can be displayed easily and directly to the connected monitor .

What is the function of monitor :-
The main function of monitor is to display the information i.e. video or graphical information , which is converted by graphic card or video card .

A computer monitor is an important device which is also called as VDU ( Visual Display Unit ) .

Types of computer monitor :-
There are various types of monitor which are available till date so lets discuss about them in details .

1. CRT Monitor :-
The full form of CRT is Cathode Ray Tube . This monitor uses Cathode Ray Tube to display Images . To construct this Cathode Ray Tube vaccun tube , heaters , electron guns , deflection circuits and a glass screen is used . When electrons are produced inside the Cathode Ray Tube then the screen is bombarded with this electrons due to which it glows up and produces image .

CRT monitor consumes alot of energy and is very bulky also .

2. LCD Monitor :-
The full form of LCD is Liquid Crystal Display . This monitor uses monochrome pixels  to display images . These pixels are sustematically arranged between transparent electrodes and polarising filters and then images are formed .
This uses Cold Cathode Fluorescent ( CCFL ) for Back-lighting .

This monitors uses less energy and provides good graphic quality . The sizes of screen ranges from 17 to 60 inches .

3. LED Monitor :-
The full form of LED is Light Emitting Diode . These are the latest type of monitors which are available in the market . These are the flat pannels or slightly curved  displays which uses Light Emitting Diodes for Back-lighting .

This monitors are Eco-friendly and uses very small amount of energy in comparision with CRT monitors and LCD monitors .

This Monitors are more durable in comparision with CRT and LCD monitors .

Advantage of this monitor is that they produces images with high contrast , and they do not produce any negative environmental impact when they are disposed .

These monitors are expensive . They do not produce lot of heat and they are very slim .

4. OLED Monitor :-
The full form of OLED is Organic Light Emitting Diode . So from the name we can understand that this is an organic material ( e.g. carbon , wood , plastic , polymers ) which are used to convert electric current to light .

Since LEDs are capable of producing different coloured lights so they can be used to produce correct colour directly . This doesnt need any backlight and hence preventing the use of power and space both .

Because this monitor has fast response time , wide viewing angles , outstanding contrast levels and perfect brightness . This OLED display is called as the best display technologies now a days .
